Playing styles and prediction

Sonego produced consistent results towards the end of last season but will be disappointed not to have done better in the rankings. The Italian will look to challenge for a seeding place at Grand Slams as his mix of power and consistency has the potential to gain better results at bigger events.

Evans’ mixture of pace and variety will be key as he looks to change the tempo of the contest and find the angles in order to wait for the perfect time to hit winners. The Italian will look to use depth to force errors from Evans as he looks for consistency on serve. If Evans can make a quick start then he should be able to win this match but should this match go to a deciding set then Sonego should become the favourite given the Brit’s lack of match play in recent months.

Prediction: Evans in four sets.
