Edmund will need to improve his serve in this match with the Italian showing his confidence on serve in recent weeks.

Playing styles and prediction

Sinner’s raw power and big serve saw him test Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz in key Grand Slam matches last season and the Italian will feel he’s not far away from going all the way at the big tournaments. Now Sinner will look to improve mentally and continue to be consistent as he looks to breakthrough into tennis’ elite.

Edmund will need to be aggressive from the start and will look to create angles to hit winners into the open space. The Brit is lacking consistency on big moments and he will need to improve that if he wants to win this match. Sinner will look to keep a high percentage on first serves and look for a lot of depth, to cause Edmund problems. This match comes too early in the Brit’s comeback like Adelaide showed but if Edmund can win a set then that will be good progress heading into the rest of the season.

Prediction: Sinner in straight sets.
