MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – Joe Salisbury will look to reach a major final for the first time with partner Rajeev Ram.

Joe Salisbury targets first major final

Joe Salisbury will soon be causing the Olympic selectors a major headache as Britain’s highest ranked doubles player lines up with his partner Rajeev Ram against the unseeded Alexander Bublik and Mikhail Kukushkin from Kazakhstan.

They were the only pair to come out a Brit-heavy quarter-final day, with Brits in three quarter-finals.

Ken Skupski and Santiago Gonzalez were beaten by the Aussie wildcards Max Purcell and Luke Saville 6-2, 6-4.

Jonny O’Mara and Marcelo Arevalo were defeated by the fourth seeds Ivan Dodig and Filip Polasek 6-3 6-2.

Jamie Murray and Bethanie Mattek Sands had to deflect six break points, including a couple when they were serving for their semi-final berth against Zheng Saisai and Joran Vliegen.

For Murray, who won the Men’s doubles title with Bruno Soares in 2016, this is a first time into the semi-finals in Melbourne. Mattek Sands won the title partnering Horia Tecau in 2012.
