Johanna Konta v Ajla Tomljanovic | H2H tied at 1-1

There is something about Australia and this match-up between British No. 1 Johanna Konta and newly minted Aussie Ajla Tomljanovic. The first time Konta faced her was in Brisbane, in the second round where the Brit triumphed. Same stage, one year on, and it was Tomljanovic who edged the Brit, who had scored a major triumph in the first round against Sloane Stephens.

It was notable that although Tomljanovic had been very much in command before a bit of a wobble which saw Konta come right back into contention in the much tighter second set, Konta elected not to call down new coach Dimitri Zavialoff.

What we an expect to see is solid serving, and if Konta’s serve is firing well we can expect the other aspects of her game to follow suit. She will meet similar resistance on the other side of the net, and perhaps her reluctance to call down her coach in Brisbane was all part of the way of learning how to figure out resistive puzzles like Tomljanovic herself.

Either way, with just Dan Evans and Katie Boulter left standing from the first day, we need Konta to regain the gritty fighting spirit she displayed back in 2016 where she ground out the win no matter what.

Prediction: Konta in three sets.

Konta and Tomljanovic are scheduled on Court 3 at 11am (Midnight, GMT)
