Dan Evans got his season back on track after he produced an impressive performance to thrash a returning Kyle Edmund and reach the last 16 in Washington. Evans dominated most of the match with a good mixture of slice and power as Edmund failed to be consistent enough to cause any real problems for the 16th seed. Now Evans will look for a deep run here in Washington as he looks for confidence after an underwhelming grass court season.
Next for Evans is Taylor Fritz who has had an up and down season this year but the American has made some big breakthroughs in 2022. The American won his maiden Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells when he beat Rafael Nadal in the final and almost beat Nadal again at Wimbledon where he lost in a last set tiebreak. Depending on which Fritz turns up this could either be a very tough match for Evans or a good match for the Brit.
Evans will look to use his slice to dictate the tempo of rallies and try to be aggressive where possible. While Fritz will look to use his baseline power and consistency within rallies to be solid and aggressive. This will be an early tester where Evans is heading into the final grand slam of the year in New York and although he should test the American, Fritz should just about prevail.
Prediction: Fritz in three sets.

Cameron Norrie continued his good run of form from Wimbledon into Los Cabos where he started his title defence by only dropping three games against Chun-Hsin Tseng. Norrie’s confidence on serve and from both forehand and backhand is at an all-time high and the Brit will look to keep this form up as tougher tests await.
Next for Norrie is big-serving Moldovan Radu Albot who defeated in-form Australian Jason Kubler to reach the quarter-finals. Age may finally be catching up to Albot who has not seen many victories this season but on his day can be a lethal prospect for any player as he doesn’t allow anyone to find time and accuracy on the ball.
Norrie’s variety and mixture of power as well as spin will look to disrupt Albot’s rhythm while the Moldovan will look to rely on his serve and power to outpower the Brit. This is a match-up that suits Norrie well and it’s expected that his defensive abilities and variety will prove too much for the powerful Moldovan.
Prediction: Norrie in straight sets.
