In general Norrie serves and returns better than his American opponent however Giron plays his best tennis when either facing or having break point opportunities.

Playing styles and prediction

The American’s big advantage is point construction and using his powerful forehand to his advantage. Giron’s preferred surface is clay after reaching the third round of Roland Garros beating Grigor Dimitrov and Guido Pella although he did test Kei Nishikori at the Olympics.

The slower court conditions should favour Norrie who will be able to dictate points with his defensive ability and fast movement. The American can’t afford to play safe and secure tennis as he is used to otherwise the scoreboard could get fairly ugly. The Brit will have to be wary on break points both on return and serve but otherwise this should be a fairly straightforward victory for Norrie.

Prediction: Norrie in straight sets.
