Into new territory, Dan Evans had already defended his point from his revival last year, just by reaching the semi-final – so why not make it the final as well! The first set was competitive with the first break point chances coming and going for Grigor Dimitrov before Evans capitalised on his own chances. Breaking for the first set gave him one foot in the final.

Again, Dimitrov started the brighter of the two with more chances to make his impact on the match, but couldn’t get past Evans’ defence. This time Dimitrov was able to fight off Evans mid-way through the set when he brought up his own chance.

Onto the tie-break and the pair exchanged mini-breaks before Evans struck back decisively twice at the end of the set to seal the match.

H2H: Dan Evans (WR 30) Tallon Griekspoor (WR 37)
Tournament Previous Best QF (2022) Debut
1st Serve % 61.1 65.0
Service Games Won % 77.1 88.6
Break Points Saved % 58.4 61.9
2nd Serve Return Points Won % 52.5 45.9
Break Points Converted % 35.1 38.5

Perhaps as a reflection of the troubles that Evans had through the middle of the year, his stats lag a little behind Tallon Griekspoor, expect for being stronger attacking second serves.

Preview & Prediction

Griekspoor has been knocking on the door a lot this year, winning his first title earlier in the year n Pune and winning Den Bosch, and reaching the semi-finals in his home tournament in Rotterdam but has come up against some of the biggest names in the ATP and perhaps struggled to make his impact.

However, is downing of the in-form Taylor Fritz will give him a lot of confidence coming into this match.

Evans has really turned his season around, and he had to. He had a decent run which started in Washington last year, and it looks like he could be about to do the same. Beating Frances Tiafoe and Dimitrov on his path to the final, not to mention having to play twice in one day.

They are close enough in the rankings for this to be a tight one to predict, even though he has had the measure of Griekspoor twice.

Prediction: Evans in three sets.
