VIENNA, AUSTRIA – After suffering an abdominal injury in Tokyo, Jack Draper makes his return to the tour when he takes on Kei Nishikori in his Vienna opener.

Draper will look to continue his clinical returning against the accurate and methodical serving of Nishikori with both players searching for confidence before the end of the season.

 

 

Playing Styles and Prediction

Nishikori reached his first ATP 500 quarter-final in a few years in his home country of Japan and will look to continue that form in Vienna. The 34 year-old continues to be a threat and will hope he can build confidence in the next couple of weeks as he will want to play a consistent amount of tennis next season.

Draper aims to be dominant with the backhand as he will need to serve aggressively in order to neutralize Nishikori’s effectiveness on return. Meanwhile Nishikori will use the backhand to push Draper back as he looks to produce counter-attacking tennis. This should be a decent test for Draper but the British number one should have too much power and quality for Nishikori.

Prediction: Draper in straight sets.
