Cameron Norrie [7] def Pedro Cachin [LL] 3-6 6-2 7-6(1)
Cameron Norrie survived a tough test from Argentinian lucky loser Pedro Cachin to reach the second round in Vienna. Just like in Stockholm last week, Norrie made life difficult for himself again with the Brit lacking that clinical edge in order to power past the gritty Argentinian.
Both players had break point opportunities in the early stages with the server coming out on top on both occasions. However it was Cachin who struck first taking advantage of some tactical errors from Norrie as he broke for a 5-3 lead. The Argentinian would comfortably close out the opening set in 40 minutes and take a one set lead.
Cachin went for the early break in the second set as well with Norrie lacking his usual attacking power. However the seventh seed saved three break points and that was the turning point Norrie needed as he took control for the rest of the set. The Brit broke in the fourth game with some high-quality tennis and he would end the set with a second break of serve as this match would be going the distance.
Now it was Norrie who was dictating the match and it was the Brit who was testing Cachin’s grit on serve. However the world number 13 once again lacked the end product needed to put this match away as Norrie missed all five break point opportunities as the final set went to a tiebreak.
The Brit made no mistake in the tiebreak though as he won seven of the eight points played to move into the second round in a three hour and nine minute marathon.

Playing Styles and Prediction
Giron recently picked up some momentum in San Diego after a difficult season for the American. The world number 58’s grinding baseline play has seen some inconsistent results and Giron will look to improve that next season especially in the big events.
This will be another long and gruelling match with both players liking to grind it out from the baseline. Norrie will be hoping that he can a bit more proactive from the baseline and produce some attacking play. The Brit’s return is slightly more reliable which makes him slight favourite but this match could go either way.
Prediction: Norrie in three sets.
