H2H: Dan Evans (WR 176) Thiago Seyboth Wild (WR 87)
Tournament Previous Best R3 (2023) N/A
1st Serve % 54.5 62.5
Service Games Won % 74.8 79.3
Break Points Saved % 60.1 65.2
2nd Serve Return Points Won % 49.1 48.9
Break Points Converted % 32.1 41.9

Despite gradual improvement, the lack of efficiency on return is still Evans’ big weakness and the Brit will need to improve that if he wants to win this match.

Playing styles and prediction

Seyboth Wild has had a poor season with there being rare bright spots in his season. Those highlights include back-to-back third rounds at Indian Wells and Miami as well as a Challenger final in Austria a couple of weeks ago. Now Seyboth Wild will hope to turn his season around in Shanghai as he aims for a place at the Australian Open main draw in January.

Evans will look to use the slice to test the Brazilian’s confidence as well as dictating play with the forehand and approaching the net to finish off points easily. Seyboth Wild will hope to be consistently aggressive on serve as he forces Evans behind the baseline. If Evans can maintain his level from qualifying then he should edge a tight match against the out-of-sorts Brazilian.

Prediction: Evans in three sets.
