After reaching the second week at the US Open, Dan Evans will look to capitalise on his good form on US soil when he takes lucky loser and former grand slam finalist Kevin Anderson.
Tale of the Tape – Key Stats (2021 – Hard)
Dan Evans (WR 23)
Kevin Anderson (WR 69)
Tournament Previous Best
1st Serve %
Service Games Won %
Break Points Saved %
2nd Serve Return Points Won %
Break Points Converted %
Unsurprisingly Anderson is more dominant on serve but the South African’s low break point conversion rate sees Evans dominate the return statistics. The key for Evans will be how well he can make life comfortable for Anderson on return.
Anderson has yet to return to the form that saw him reach two grand slam finals in 2017/18. However a rejuvenating grass court season that saw him win the Newport title, Anderson has been playing with much more confidence and started to slowly climb nearer to the top 50.
Returns are going to be key for Evans and his ability to hit deep shots in rallies is going to be key in order to dictate points against the big-serving Anderson. The Brit’s recent form makes him favourite here but should he let his guard down then Anderson is more than experienced enough to capitalise given his serving statistics as well.
Prediction: Evans in straight sets.
