Cameron Norrie is into the semi-finals in Rio De Janeiro after ousting out Thiago Seyboth Wild in three sets. Norrie was dominant from the beginning of the match as he dominated from the baseline using the forehand to extract mistakes from Seyboth Wild’s game. The Brazilian initially fended off pressure from the Brit as he held in a long second game with some clever serving.

However that would be the only game that Seyboth Wild would win as Norrie used the angles on the court to hit efficient winners. The Brit was efficient and clinical as he converted two of his three break points to take a 5-1 lead before closing out the opening set to love.

In the second set there was a better response from Seyboth Wild as he served with confidence and precision with Norrie becoming more passive. There were more errors coming from Norrie’s racket as the Brazilian became more aggressive which is a tactic that paid off in the sixth game as he broke for a 4-1 lead.

Using a mixture of depth and power, Seyboth Wild continued to be unpredictable as he forced the shorter ball from Norrie with the Brazilian’s pace on the run becoming especially impressive. Remaining calm and composed, the Brazilian took advantage of Norrie’s lack of consistency on return as he closed out the second set with ease to force a deciding set.

Despite the setback in the second set, Norrie reverted back to his aggressive game in the final set as a break in the second game ensured he was in control of the final set. The Brazilian seemed to run out of ideas on return as Norrie served with confidence and freedom. After surviving a tough service game in the third game, Norrie showed his best tennis in the sixth game as he secured the double break lead by converting the third break point of the game.

There would be a slight twist in the tale towards the end of the match as Norrie failed to convert any of his three match points on serve as he played too passively. Seyboth Wild took advantage as he gained one of the breaks back to reduce the deficit to 5-2.

However Norrie bounced back quickly as he broke back, converting his fifth match point, to seal his place in the semi-finals.

Playing Styles and Prediction

Navone has been in incredible over the last few months having won two Challenger titles in Argentina as well as reaching another Challenger final this year. However his achievement this week has by far been his best having reached his first ATP 500 semi-final of his career. Now the Argentinian will look to continue his rise up the rankings as he is projected to be 76 in the world next week.

Norrie will look to continue his efficiency on serve as he will need to be aggressive against a hard-working opponent like Navone. Meanwhile the Argentinian will look to use depth and angles to extract errors from Norrie’s game. This should be a tight contest but Norrie’s experience should see him into the final for a second year in a row.

Prediction: Norrie in three sets.
