All hail the new British number one as Jack Draper edged towards a Wimbledon seeding by winning his first ATP title in Stuttgart. The Brit’s improvement in serve has paid off as Draper has turned into a serving machine and that was evident in his win over Matteo Berrettini in the final. Now Draper will aim for consistency and back up his big title with a big week on home territory at Queen’s Club.

Draper’s first opponent is Mariano Navone who is unfamiliar on the grass having mainly applied his trade on clay. Navone broke through this season by reaching the final at the ATP 500 event at Rio De Janeiro where he beat Cameron Norrie on his way to the final. Since then, Navone has reached another ATP final in Bucharest and continued to climb up the rankings where he was seeded at Roland Garros. Now Navone will have limited expectations heading into his first grass court season.

Draper will continue to dictate play on the serve as he will aim to finish points off with the forehand. Meanwhile Navone will stick to the baseline and use depth to try to force tactical errors from the Brit. This should be a comfortable win for Draper as long as he isn’t too fatigued from his week in Stuttgart.

Prediction: Draper in straight sets.

A name to remember over the grass court season is Billy Harris who made his breakthrough in Sofia at the end of last year and has continued the momentum this season. The Brit was one win away from qualifying for Roland Garros and has started his grass court season with back-to-back semi-finals in Surbiton and Nottingham. Now Harris will aim to solidify his place as a wildcard for the main draw as wildcards are set to be announced this week.

Now Harris will face Tomas Martin Etcheverry in his opening round match, who is a player that loves a long rally or two. The Argentinian is in consistent form and recently reached the ATP final in Lyon. However on one of his weaker surfaces, Martin Etcheverry now faces a battle to be seeded for Wimbledon with this week being the final week he can grow his ranking.

Harris is aiming to use his big serve to cause Martin Etcheverry problems as he will look to finish points off at the net. Meanwhile Martin Etcheverry will aim to extend the rallies as the Argentinian will look to force erratic errors from Harris. This will be a tough match for the Brit but his recent confidence on the grass means that an upset could be on the cards here.

Prediction: Harris in three sets.
