Ryan Peniston [WC] def Francisco Cerundolo 6-0 4-6 6-4
Ryan Peniston is into his maiden ATP tour quarter-final after completing a third set comeback against Francisco Cerundolo. The Brit continued his high-quality tennis from his match against Casper Ruud as he dictated a lot of the tempo from the baseline in the early exchanges. Meanwhile Cerundolo produced a flurry of unforced errors as the Argentinian never got going in the opening set.
Meanwhile Peniston continued to build confidence and momentum as he continued to be the aggressor in the opening sets, taking shots early and hitting winners. The world number 180 only conceded seven points in the set as he wrapped up the opening set in just over two hours.
However there was an immediate response from the Argentinian as he made more risks and dictated play through his powerful forehand. Any shot that wasn’t hitting the lines saw Cerundolo make the Brit pay with some ferocious hitting on the forehand side and a break to love in the third game saw him take the early initiative.
Peniston pushed for the break but it was Cerundolo who saved three break points with more aggressive hitting as he denied the Brit the break back. In the end despite some passive play in moments, Cerundolo managed to dictate the break points as he edged to the second set and levelled the match at one set all.
Cerundolo carried the momentum into the final set as more powerful hitting sealed an early break and the Argentinian pushed for the double break. However Penistion produced some big serves in crucial moments to save three break points and remain just a break behind. Some passive play from Cerundolo allowed the Brit back into the match and he took the opportunity with both hands as Peniston broke twice in the final three games. Peniston sealed victory with a powerful return winner to reach his maiden ATP tour quarter-final.

Playing Styles and Prediction
Krajinovic has produced more consistency over the clay court season and will be looking to take that into the grass court season. The Serb has a big serve mixed with effective point construction that can be dangerous to play against for any player on his day.
Peniston will look to continue to return well and will look to be tactically consistent, something he lacked at times against Cerundolo. If the Brit can produce a consistent level throughout then he should have enough for Krajinovic but this will be another test of nerve with so much on the line for the wildcard.
Prediction: Peniston in three sets.
