Tale of the Tape – Key Stats (2021 – Grass)

H2H: Cameron Norrie (WR 41) Aslan Karatsev (24)
Tournament Previous Best R1 (2017-2019) Debut
1st Serve % 71.1 61.1
Service Games Won % 93.3 85.7
Break Points Saved % 80.0 33.3
2nd Serve Return Points Won % 42.9 57.1
Break Points Converted % 22.2 50

With both of them having played a three-setter on the grass, Norrie’s serving has yielded its rewards, but he has been significantly weaker in terms of his ability to punish second series and converting break points.

Playing Styles & Prediction

Karatsev plugs into aggressive mode and really should have made his serving work more for him in his first match, but it did look as though he was struggling to adjust to the surface in his first match.

Norrie had to work hard for his one too and should make up some ground – he has been working well on his serving and we have often spoke about his already decent movement being a lot better this season.

However this is going to be a fight and it would be no surprise to see this as another hard fought three-setter.

Prediction: Norrie in three sets.

Jack Draper picked up his first ATP Tour level win in front of home crowds, taking out the No. 3 seed Jannik Sinner. So how will he fare against the unpredictable Alexander Bublik?

Tale of the Tape – Key Stats (2021)

H2H: Jack Draper (WR 309) Alexander Bublik (39)
Tournament Previous Best Qualies (2019) R1 (2019)
1st Serve % 67.1 51.5
Service Games Won % 75.0 85.7
Break Points Saved % 25.0 75.0
2nd Serve Return Points Won % 58.8 50.0
Break Points Converted % 50.0 50.0

Draper’s serve improved as his confidence grew in his opening match but the slow start skews his numbers a little. He is a little stronger in his return game, where second serves are concerned.

Playing Styles & Prediction

For someone still quite young, Draper is already pretty technically sound and is a clean ball striker. He is solid off both wings, and if he can drag Bublik into long rallies, he likes to dictate.

Bublik is unpredictable in that he likes to go for the crowd-pleasing shots and this will test Draper as he is not averse to chucking in tweeners and trick shots.

But experience might be a little too much seeing as Bublik beat Draper in 2019 in the qualifying rounds. Draper could well trouble him for a set.

Prediction: Bublik in three sets
