Jack Draper def Arthur Rinderknech [WC] 6-3 6-4
Jack Draper moved into the second round in Paris-Bercy with a convincing win over in-form Frenchman Arthur Rinderkench. The match had very few opportunities in it with both players continuing to serve comfortably as they have done in their last few tournaments. It was Rinderknech who struggled the most on serve and his inconsistency proved to be his downfall in the opening set as Draper comfortably broke for a 4-2 lead.
Draper only dropped three points on serve in the opening set as he was efficient and proactive with his shot-making as he took advantage of the fast Parisian courts. The Brit sealed the opening set in 38 minutes as he was in dominant and ruthless form.
The second set was tough for both players especially Rinderknech as Draper continued to implement his power game on return. The Frenchman saved three break points in the third game but in the seventh game, could not deny Draper’s dominant baseline play as the Brit had the break lead at 4-3.
After a hold to love each, Rinderknech put Draper under a lot of pressure in the tenth game as it was last chance saloon if he wanted to stay in this match. The Brit saved his first break points of the match and in the end produced big serves at the right moments to close out the match and move into the second round.

Playing Styles and Prediction
Tiafoe’s breakthrough season has seen him on the verge of the world’s top 20 and a deep tournament in Paris could see him in contention to become a top 16 seed come the Australian Open in January. Tiafoe’s big serve mixed with big forehand sees him as a threat on indoor hard courts and he will look to prove that this week.
Draper will look for as many free points on serve as possible as he looks to set up effective and efficient points by targeting the Tiafoe backhand. The American will look to use the quick conditions to his advantage and put Draper under as much pressure as possible. This should be a big-hitting contest with Draper’s fresh energy making him slight favourite for this match-up.
Prediction: Draper in three sets.
