Evans will need to improve the statistics on his serve but his returning statistics are encouraging heading into this tough opening round match.

Playing styles and prediction

Bublik’s patchy end to the season shouldn’t take away from the fact that he is a nightmare opponent to face. The Kazakh’s unpredictability mixed with unique talent and impressive serve is a perfect recipe for triumph and disaster on an indoor hard court.

Evans will need to remain at a consistently high level throughout the match and weather the Bublik storm whenever the Kazakh raises his level. The Brit will need to be aggressive and try and mix things up to put Bublik off of his game plan. Traditionally this is a banana skin match-up for Evans and things could prove tricky once again here in Paris.

Prediction: Bublik in three sets.
