Cameron Norrie [Q] v Milos Raonic | First Meeting

With a spot still open in the GB squad named for the new-look Davis Cup finals, this week will be a straight up battle between the two other singles players in the mix. Cameron Norrie is the first up in Paris, taking on Milos Raonic for the first time.

Norrie’s latter half of the season has been pretty solid after the US Open – his match sharpness showing with some very dogged performances including coming through qualifying. In fact he seemed to thrive more in the Asian swing, and his first round win over Gilles Simon in Shanghai demonstrated some very solid sticking power.

Raonic comes into Paris with very little match-play. Having succumbed yet again to injuries, this time having to miss the US Open, and playing just te Laver Cup before skipping the entire Asian swing, Norrie really has to fancy his chances over the Canadian.

What has always irritated about Raonic is that even though he does have the capability of playing an all-court game, his steadfast belief that everything needs to revolve around his strong serve.

While Norrie might not match Raonic in terms serving fire power, he can employ a lot more variety, and will be able to make the big-serving Canadian feel pretty uncomfortable if he puts his mind to it,

If he can drag the match out to three sets, his own sharpness might just be the key to the win.

Prediction: Norrie in three sets.

Norrie & Raonic are scheduled on Court 1 not before 2pm (1pm GMT).
