NEWPORT, USA – After an early exit at Wimbledon, Andy Murray takes a late wildcard to Newport where he takes on Sam Querrey in his opening match.

Playing styles and prediction

Querrey has struggled for wins this season and despite improving his level of play on grass, the American will be looking to for victories heading into the US Open. Querrey will look to use his big serve mixed with powerful groundstrokes to dictate play and will look to play aggressive tennis to make Murray uncomfortable in baseline exchanges.

Murray will be looking to serve much better than he did against Isner and will look to use a variety of slices and dropshots to test Querrey’s confidence. Should the American feel confident in his tactical ability then this could be a tough match but if Murray can find the form that saw him reach the final in Stuttgart then he should get through this match in straight sets.

Prediction: Murray in straight sets.
