MUNICH, GERMANY – Kyle Edmund will make his clay court comeback in Munich this week as he takes on eighth seed Marc-Andrea Huesler in his opening match.

Kyle Edmund will play his first clay court event for three years when he takes on Marc-Andrea Huesler in his Munich opener.

Edmund will need to much better on break point opportunities if he wants to earn match wins on the main tour.

 

 

Playing styles and prediction

Huesler has had a rough start to the season as he has only won back-to-back matches at team events this season. The world number 60 prefers hard courts to impose his serve and attacking style of play but will use the clay court season to gain confidence and momentum as he looks for a better second half to the season.

Edmund will look to take advantage of Huesler’s lack of confidence and form by returning well and using the angles to force the eighth seed into hitting difficult winners from the baseline. Meanwhile Huesler will look to force Edmund behind the baseline and use a mix of power and slice to force the Brit into tactical errors. This will be a good match for Edmund to start the clay court season but the feeling is that he will fall just short as he lacks match practice on clay.

Prediction: Huesler in three sets.
