Playing styles and prediction

Cressy’s serve and volleying game made its breakthrough at the start of the year in Australia where he reached the final of the Melbourne Summer Set, losing to Rafael Nadal. Since then the American has struggled for form losing seven main draw matches in a row. Clay is the American’s weakest surface and will be hoping to get onto the grass courts of Wimbledon very soon.

Evans will look to return effectively and anticipate Cressy’s move to the net quickly and outsmart the American. This is the perfect match for Evans to build confidence in his groundstrokes and also in his defensive skills from the back of the court. A loss here would surely mean that the Brit should lower his expectations for Roland Garros to the lowest possible form.

Prediction: Evans in straight sets.
