Playing styles and prediction
Paire continues to grind on the Challenger tour after falling outside the world’s top 100 with the charismatic Frenchman still looking to achieve good results as his career is edging towards an end. After a good end to last year, the Frenchman has started this season with three defeats from a possible five matches. Now the 34 year-old will look to improve his form at a tournament he has had good results in the past.
Murray will look to be aggressive on serve and will aim to extend the rallies with smart returning and plenty of slices. Meanwhile Paire will look to use the home crowd to his advantage by producing emphatic serving and approaching the net as much as possible in order to shorten the points. This will be a tough test for Murray in a hostile environment but the Brit should have enough consistent quality to prevail in what is only his second appearance in Montpellier.
Prediction: Murray in three sets.
