It was a tough match for Lorenzo Musetti but the Italian managed to find an extra gear in his win over Jiri Lehecka. The 13th seed has a consistent season but is yet to produce an outstanding result this season and is still seeking for a result to spark his season to life. Having produced big results on clay in the past, Musetti will be hoping he can produce a deep run on clay and there is no better opportunity than in Monte-Carlo as some big names have crashed out already.
One player Musetti has to thank for an opportunistic draw is Matteo Berrettini as the Italian produced one of the best wins of his career by adding to Alexander Zverev’s woes. It has been an incredible year so far for Berrettini who has recorded some big wins in 2025 but would love nothing more than to put those wins together in a single tournament. Although clay isn’t Berrettini’s favourite surface, the Italian knows that his skillset can still do some damage on the red dirt and the Italian would love to cause more chaos over the next month.
Musetti will need to start better than he did in his previous match as he will use the backhand to cause Berrettini problems. Meanwhile Berrettini will aim to serve aggressively and use the forehand to limit Musetti’s problems. This is a tough match to call but Musetti’s better movement and clay court qualities sees him as the slight favourite heading into this fiery showdown.
Prediction: Musetti in three sets.

Life under Marat Safin’s mentorship got off to a successful start for Andrey Rublev as he defeated Gael Monfils in his opening match. The seventh seed will know that there is still a lot of work to do though as he has lacked consistency for much of this year. However, a much more aggressive performance will give Rublev plenty of positives to build on as he targets another successful clay court season on the road to Roland Garros.
Another tough test awaits in the form of Arthur Fils who is one of the most improved players of the last year. The Frenchman has showed in the past that he can succeed on clay but it has been his recent hard court form that has caught people’s attention. After winning the ATP 500 event in Tokyo towards the end of last year, Fils has backed that up with back-to-back quarter-finals at Indian Wells and Miami. Now Fils will aim to continue his confident form as he continues to excel at the top of the men’s game at the age of 20.
Rublev will continue to dominate on the forehand as he aims to continue to improve his serve, an element that was so crucial in his win over Monfils. Meanwhile Fils will need to serve aggressively as he will use the backhand to neutralize Rublev’s baseline power. This will be a good match between two powerful baseliners with Fils’ better confidence and more stable level putting him as slight favourite in this match.
Prediction: Fils in three sets.

Carlos Alcaraz [2] v Daniel Altmaier [Q] H2H & Match Fundamentals
Carlos Alcaraz [2] v Daniel Altmaier [Q] | H2H: First Meeting |

There was a first set scare for Carlos Alcaraz against Francisco Cerundolo before the Spaniard proceeded to only drop one game in his last two sets. Although it may seem hard to believe but that was Alcaraz’s first ever win in Monaco and the Spaniard will be striving for more success as the week goes on. As the shocks keep coming in Monte-Carlo, Alcaraz will sense a real opportunity to send an early statement on clay as his Roland Garros title defence edges closer.
A potentially awkward third round match awaits Alcaraz in the form of the aggressive Daniel Altmaier. The German qualifier has knocked out both Felix Auger-Aliassime and Richard Gasquet on his way to the third round and is not one to be messed with on clay. Previously Altmaier has also beaten Jannik Sinner on clay and knows he has the game to outpower the best players in the world. Now Altmaier will aim to continue that form in order to secure the best win of his career.
Alcaraz will aim to be aggressive on serve and start efficiently as he will use variety to cause Altmaier problems. Meanwhile the German will serve aggressively as he will approach the net in order to finish points off efficiently. This will be a very tough match for Alcaraz with Altmaier having the game to cause the Spaniard problems. However, Alcaraz should have too much quality for the German in this tight three set contest.
Prediction: Alcaraz in three sets.
