Evans’ consistency in recent months really shows – he has played less than Tiafoe but made the key points count. Variety has always been a key part of Evans’ game, and he will need all of those tricks to out-hustle Tiafoe’s more rapid-fire approach.
Playing Styles
Like many of his compatriots, Tiafoe is moulded in the aggressive baseline style of play, with a big serve, coupled with a powerful forehand. However, Evans has been serving solidly as well, if not just a little more accurately.
The Brit will want to try and stay away from Tiafoe’s trademark heavy topspin forehand that is whipped across the court in a unique style. Instead expect the Brit to try and get Tiafoe off the baseline and moving around the court a lot.
Prediction
Tiafoe has been as high as World No. 29 but has slipped down the rankings while Evans has earned his place in the Top 30 with some very consistent runs in tournaments. As a night match this could be very entertaining, especially if Evans makes a quick start.
