Playing styles and prediction

Just like Evans, Carballes Baena is yet to win back-to-back matches this season and even struggled to pick up any momentum on the South American clay. Now the Spaniard will aim to pick up some momentum as he looks to repeat his success over Evans from last year and defend his Marrakech title.

Evans will aim to improve his efficiency on break points as he looks for consistency on serve. Meanwhile Carballes Baena aims to use the angles to test Evans’ movement on clay with the Spaniard looking to extend the rallies. This is a very tough opening round match with both players in search of big confidence and a win for Evans could be a psychological boost heading into the next month.

Prediction: Carballes Baena in three sets.
