Playing styles and prediction

After a good start to the season in Australia, Popyrin’s form in recent months has tailed off as the Australian will hope a change a surface will mean a change of fortunes. Popyrin will hope that his powerful forehand can see him gain consistent momentum on the clay as he looks to edge closer to the world’s top 70 heading into the rest of the season.

As well as returning well, Evans needs to be consistent on serve as he will look to test Popyrin on return and neutralise the Australian’s power. Popyrin will look to force Evans as far back behind the baseline as possible and set up easy patterns of play as he looks to shorten up the rallies. This is a big opportunity for Evans to finally gain a victory and end his recent losing streak with the performance in this match setting the tone for the rest of the clay court season.

Prediction: Evans in three sets.
