Cameron Norrie dominated Ernesto Escobedo only dropping two games as he secured his 33rd win of the season. The Brit won 90% of his first service points in the opening set as he broke serve on his opening two return games.
The American qualifier was hitting unforced errors often and proved too impatient in rallies as Norrie would break for a third time to take the opening set. A similar pattern would occur in the second set as the Brit created 14 break point opportunities in the match.
After once again taking a 4-0 lead, Norrie sealed a dominating display on his fourth match point as he booked his place into the last four in 1 hour and 23 minutes. The world number 30 will now compete in his fifth ATP semi-final this season on Friday.
Cameron Norrie v Taylor Fritz H2H & Match Fundamentals
After having knee surgery just before Wimbledon, Fritz’s recovery and run at SW19 as well as in Mexico has been extraordinary. Having said that, the rest of the season has been average for the 23 year-old who’s best result was a semi-final in Doha in March. The American’s big serve and groundstrokes mixed with good athleticism makes him a danger to any top player’s game as seen in his matches with Novak Djokovic this season.
It’s Fritz’s serve against Norrie’s return in a match that the Brit will have his chances to dictate points and build up rallies. The American will look to implement his big-hitting game and take the Brit out of his comfort zone. This match is a 50-50 contest but the edge has to go to the top seed given his form this season.
Prediction: Norrie in three sets.
