SURBITON, UK – Andy Murray & Jodie Burrage made the semi final of the singles events, Julian Cash & Henry Patten lifted the ATP Challenger doubles title.

Julian Cash & Henry Patten were awarded a wildcard into the men’s doubles. In the first round the Brits were against Denis Kudla & Stefan Kozlov. The Americans stayed toe to toe with Cash & Patten in the first set, however, eventually the Brits broke serve to get the lead. The second set saw the Brits dominate Kudla & Kozlov and book a spot in the next round 6-4, 6-2.
The quarter-final saw the Brits against the second seeds John-Patrick Smith & Ramkumar Ramanathan. The Aussie/Indian pair fought hard with Cash & Patten forcing a tiebreak. However, the Brits secured the set on the breaker to take the lead. The second set was much the same, with both pairs staying toe to toe. Once again a tiebreak ensued, and once again the Brits secured the win and moved into the next round 7-6, 7-6.
In the semi-final the Brits were against Billy Harris & Antoine Bellier. Cash & Patten broke serve early in the first set to take the lead. The Brit/Swiss pair tried to fight back, but were unable to get close to Cash & Patten. The second set was a re run of the first, with the Brits breaking serve. The wildcard pairing eased through to the final in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
The final pitched the Brits against the third seeds Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi & Aleksandr Nedovyesov. The first set saw the seeds get the jump on the Brits and break to take the lead. However, the Brits regrouped in the second set and fought back to level up the match. In the ensuing champions tie break, it was the Brits that edged ahead and held on to lift the title 4-6, 6-3, 11-9.

Men’s Singles
Andy Murray entered the challenger event, to get some grass court matches in ahead of Wimbledon, and was the top seed. The first round saw Murray against Jurij Rodionov. The Austrian was no match for the Brit who dominated from the outset. Barely putting a foot wrong the top seed eased through to the second round 6-2, 6-1.
The second round saw the seed against qualifier Gijis Brouwer. The Dutchman was a bit more of a challenge for Murray, however the Brit secured a break of serve in each set. Brouwer was unable to get back on terms, and it was Murray that progressed to the quarter-final 6-4, 6-4.
In the quarter-final Murray was against the fifth seed Brandon Nakashima. The Brit secured the break of serve needed in the first set, and the American was unable to get back on terms. The second set was much closer, as the American forced a tiebreak. However, Murray was equal to this and stormed through the breaker to book a semi-final spot 6-4, 7-6.
The semi-final saw Murray against seventh seed Denis Kudla. The American was surprised by the Brit at the start, as Murray broke and took an early lead. However, Kudla tried to pull back but it was the top seed that sealed the set to take the lead. The second set was much closer, as the American forced a tiebreak. Kudla levelled up by taking the breaker. The final set saw the American break Murray, and the Brit just could not get the break back to level up, it was Kudla that progressed to the final 5-7, 7-6, 6-3.
Ladies singles
Jodie Burrage was granted a wildcard into the main draw. Her first round opponent was the third seed Zhu Lin. The Brit stayed toe to toe with the the Chinese in the first set, forcing a tiebreak. Burrage edged the breaker and took the lead. The second set saw the Brit break serve and the seed was unable to get back. Burrage moved into the next round 7-6, 6-3.
The second round saw Burrage against Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl. The Brit broke serve in the first set to take the lead. Baindl tried to get back into the set, but was unable to. The second set was much the same as the first, with the Brit getting the break to move into the next round 6-4, 6-4.
In the quarter-final the Brit was against sixth seed Mihaela Buzarnescu. Burrage broke the Romanian serve and took the lead. In the second set Buzarnescu was trying to stay with the Brit, but Burrage broke serve again. The Romanian had been struggling and was forced to retire from the match, Burrage was through to the semi-final 6-3, 2-1 (RET).
The semi-final saw the Brit against the second seed Alison Van Uytvanck. The Belgian managed to break the serve of Burrage and took the lead. The second set saw Van Uytvanck dominate, and Burrage was unable to get into the game. The Belgian took the match 6-3, 6-2.
