Playing styles and prediction

Sonego has played well to start the season but the Italian is yet to produce the results to back that up as he has been on the losing end of some tight matches. Now the Italian will aim to change his fortunes around and convert positive performances into victories as he looks to climb into the world’s top 50.

Norrie will aim to be aggressive on the forehand as he will approach the net in order to finish off rallies efficiently. Meanwhile Sonego will look for depth as he looks to be aggressive on serve and test the Brit’s defensive qualities. This will be a tough test for Norrie but should he play as aggressively as he did at the Australian Open then he should advance into the third round.

Prediction: Norrie in three sets.

As Norrie looks ahead to the second round, Andy Murray is out in the second round after a straight sets defeat to fifth seed Andrey Rublev. In the first set both players had opportunities with Murray’s best chance being in the tenth game when he had four set points.

However four set points came and went as Murray never recovered from that setback with the Brit playing a poor first set tiebreak. The momentum was with Rublev and Murray lost a tough service game for a 3-1 lead with the Brit’s motivation seemingly dropping. After breaking for a second time in the sixth game, Rublev converted his fourth match to seal a place in the third round.

As for Murray he will now concentrate on the Miami Open which starts on the 20th of March.
