Dan Evans cruised past Federico Coria with the loss of two games to reach the third round at Indian Wells. The Brit made the best possible start as he produced some aggressive return to break in the opening game against the Argentinian. Despite a nervy start, Coria settled into the match well and took advantage of passive serving from Evans in the fourth game as he broke for 2-2.

From then on though it was all about Evans as he increased his level and intensity as he caused Coria all sorts of problems from the baseline. Coria couldn’t get any rhythm going on serve as an aggressive Evans secured four games in a row to secure the opening set in 40 minutes.

The 27th seed was utterly dominant in the second set with Coria unable to dictate the tempo of the match as he was unable to construct effective points from the baseline. Evans read Coria’s game well and cruised to a straight sets victory in clinical fashion to move into the last 32.

Playing Styles and Prediction

Nadal remains undefeated for the season despite being tested by Korda in a three set epic in the last round. The Spaniard won’t be playing Miami so will be putting in maximum energy and effort to claim his third title of the season in California.

Evans will do his best to disrupt Nadal’s rhythm with slices and variety but this is one of those matches where the Spaniard thrives on tactically. The Brit will need to be as aggressive as possible and try to limit as many opportunities as possible. This will be a tough test for Evans but one that can help him identify areas of improvement for the rest of the season.

Prediction: Nadal in straight sets.
