Playing styles and predictions
Zhang has had a breakthrough season where the 26 year-old has broken into the world’s top 70 with a highlight being his run to the Madrid quarter-finals. Now after a few early round exits in recent weeks, Zhang will look to get his season back on track with a deep run in Hamburg heading into the US hard court swing.
Choinski will look to mix up his serving patterns as he looks to set up unpredictable patterns of play to find weaknesses in Zhang’s return game. Meanwhile Zhang will look to use a mix of power and depth to dictate the tempo of the rallies and force errors from Choinski. This should be a good experience for Choinski and will believe he can get a positive result from this match given the slightly faster conditions in Hamburg. However Zhang has produced quality performances at ATP level on clay this season and won’t make it easy for the Brit to implement his game style in what should be an intriguing first round match.
