Dan Evans def Adrian Mannarino 6-4 6-3
Dan Evans is into the second round of Eastbourne after a straight sets win over Adrian Mannarino. Both players were crafty with their shot-making and point construction as an entertaining opening set unravelled.
Mannarino produced effortless power when coming into the net and was able to finish off points quickly with deep shot-making. While Evans is slice and cleanness of shots from the baseline saw him prove dominant on serve. In the end something had to give and it was Evans who was smarter with his returning and overall play that broke first as he secured the opening set with a forehand that clipped the top of the net.
In the second set Evans had to fend off some early Mannarino pressure with moments of magic on the run as both players continued to display effortless power. The Frenchman played a much more aggressive second set with more spin and depth but ultimately Evans held off the early pressure to the British crowd’s delight.
Evans was ultimately rewarded for his gutsy effort on serve as a double fault from Mannarino handed the break to the Brit in the eighth game. Evans would serve out the win to seal a place in the second round in Eastbourne and get his grass court season back on track.

Playing Styles and Prediction
Since reaching the second week at the Australian Open, Cressy has had a poor season but is looking to rediscover that form on the grass. Cressy’s serve and volley game is perfect for the grass as was evident against Reilly Opelka in the opening round.
Evans will look to use smart returns and great angles to neutralise Cressy’s serve and volley game. This will test the Brit’s patience as well as his ability to produce big moments on pressure points. This should be an intriguing match and one that Evans might have the slight edge in.
Prediction: Evans in three sets.
