Playing styles and prediction

After a good tournament at Wimbledon last year, Shapovalov has continued to suffer injury setbacks and now finds himself outside of the world’s top 100. The Canadian’s only main draw win this season has been in Montpellier and has struggled to rebuild his confidence and form. Now Shapovalov will look to turn his form around at a place that he has produced successful results in the past.

Murray will look to provide stability and consistency on the backhand side as he aims to use his defensive skillset to force errors from Shapovalov. Meanwhile the Canadian will look to serve efficiently and use the backhand to force Murray behind the baseline. Although Shapovalov has been serving effectively recently, Murray should have enough quality to overcome the Canadian’s erratic game style.

Prediction: Murray in three sets.
