Rublev has been extremely effective when holding serve and breaking the opponent’s, Evans will need to raise his game when saving break points if he is to have any chance of winning.

Playing styles and prediction

After a tricky start to the season, Rublev has hit his form at the right time having reached the semi-finals in Rotterdam and then winning the singles and doubles titles in Marseille where he beat Felix Auger-Aliassime in the singles final. The Russian serves and returns big as well as reaching controlled power on both forehand and backhand sides.

Evans will need to use his slice to good effect and be patient in constructing effective points as he won’t have it all his own way due to Rublev power. Both players love playing on the fast hard courts in Dubai so this should be a relatively close match. Rublev’s fatigue may play a part and Evans will need to take advantage especially on return if he wants to have a successful outcome in this match.

Prediction: Rublev in three sets.
