DOHA, QATAR – Jack Draper plays his first tournament since the Australian Open in Doha where he takes on Alexei Popyrin in the opening round.

Draper will look to continue his efficiency on return as he is playing a consistently aggressive server in the form of Popyrin.

 

 

Playing Styles and Prediction

Popyrin had a sensational end to last season, winning his maiden Masters 1000 title in Canada before defeating Novak Djokovic at the US Open. However the Australian has started the new season with three consecutive defeats and will need to improve his form if he wants to break into the world’s top 20.

Draper look to be aggressive on serve as he will use the backhand to neutralise Popyrin’s power from the baseline. The Australian will look to be consistent on serve as he will wait for his opportunities on return, capitalising on any rust from Draper. This is a match between two players who lack either conditioning or confidence. However the Brit’s start to the season makes him slight favourite for this contest.

Prediction: Draper in three sets.
