After a first round exit in Melbourne, Dan Evans is looking to continue his road to full fitness when he takes on Jordan Thompson in Delray Beach.

Evans will be desperate to improve his efficiency on return especially given how well Thompson has served to start the season.

 

 

Playing styles and prediction

Thompson has played some consistently aggressive tennis as he has achieved some good wins as well as pushing Stefanos Tsitsipas all the way at the Australian Open. Now the Australian will look to continue his aggressive serving as he continues to push for a Grand Slam seeding.

Evans will need to start the match aggressively as he will aim to use the forehand to dictate play from the baseline and use the backhand to mix the rallies up. Meanwhile Thompson will continue to serve accurately as well as coming up to the net to finish points off efficiently. This is one of the toughest first rounds Evans could have had but as long as Evans can limit the errors than he should be confident enough to come through this.

Prediction: Evans in three sets.
