The German has been more clinical on serve and return this season but this is another level playing a masters 1000 champion.

Playing styles and prediction

Otte is someone who has crept into the top 100 with consistent challenger results and a clear identity in how to be effective on court. His casual groundstrokes mixed with a big serve and good volleying caused Andy Murray problems at Wimbledon last year and the German is capable of being an awkward opponent for any player.

Norrie will need serve well and return well in particular as Otte’s serve can be unpredictable. This will test the Brit’s confidence and consistency levels as he looks to capitalise on a couple of good wins in Rotterdam last week as he heads into his Indian Wells title defence.

Prediction: Norrie in straight sets.

Adrian Mannarino [7] def Liam Broady [Q] 6-2 6-3

As Norrie looks ahead to his second round meeting, Liam Broady crashed out in the opening round to 7th seed Adrian Mannarino. Most of the games in the opening set were close but Broady was unable to win the important points as Mannarino broke in the third and seventh games to seal the opening set 6-2.

Broady took the confidence from his wins in qualifying and a valiant opening set to break at the start of the second set to lead 2-0. However Mannarino immediately broke back and would go onto break on two more occasions to seal a straight sets win. A lesson for Broady in how to be clinical as the Brit now heads to Acapulco for the ATP 500 where he looks to qualify.
