H2H: Andy Murray (WR 42) Grigor Dimitrov (WR 14)
Tournament Previous Best Champion (2012, 2013) Champion (2017)

Break Points Saved % 61 62.4
2nd Serve Return Points Won % 50 51.6
Break Points Converted % 32.4 40.9

Murray will need to improve his efficiency on break points this season especially against a player like Dimitrov who has been consistently impressive on serve over the last 12 months.

Playing styles and prediction

The end of last season couldn’t have come at a worse time for Dimitrov who had a sensational end to 2023. The Bulgarian backed up his run to the semi-finals of Shanghai by reaching the final at the last Masters 1000 in Paris. The 32 year-old is arguably in the best physical and mental shape as he looks for a big Grand Slam performance in 2024.

Murray will look to be consistently aggressive on serve as well looking to use depth on return to force Dimitrov back behind the baseline. Meanwhile Dimitrov will look to continue to use his forehand to dominate baseline exchanges as well as coming into the net to finish points off efficiently. This is a brutal opening test for Murray and although a good performance is expected, Dimitrov should have too much consistent firepower for the Brit.

Prediction: Dimitrov in three sets.
