Murray will need to be aware of Safiullin’s big serving heading into this match with the Brit’s second serve return being the key to victory.
Playing styles and prediction
Safiullin has been winning for fun on the challenger circuit having won two titles in recent months but is yet to translate that into main tour results. The Russian has a big serve that he uses as the foundation for his aggressive style of play as seen at the ATP Cup in the last couple of years.
Murray will look to serve well and neutralise the Russian’s power with his slice and different angles on the court. Safiullin will look to keep his first serve percentage high as he looks to overpower Murray and rely on the Brit’s occasional passive play. Murray should get through this match in three sets but this will be no easy task and will really have to earn the victory.
