BARCELONA, SPAIN – British No. 2, Cameron Norrie suffered a first-round defeat to qualifier Albert Ramos-Viñolas of Spain.

Albert Ramos-Viñolas [Q] def. Cameron Norrie 6-2 6-2
Cameron Norrie, who hit a career-high ranking of 45 this week, appeared from the start to be under the weather and simply never found his footing as Albert Ramos-Viñolas, the experienced Spanish clay-courter moved him around with ease, never allowing even a single break point. Norrie went down 6-2, 6-2 in just under 57 minutes.
It was the second week in a row that Norrie crashed out to a qualifier after losing in the Monte Carlo Round of 16 to Lorenzo Sonego of Italy, although the points he earned propelled Norrie to his current ranking. The upside for this first round Barcelona loss is that Norrie didn’t play in Barcelona last year and therefore didn’t have any points to defend so his ranking should stay pretty much intact.
Next up for Norrie is the ATP Millennium Estoril Open which takes place between 29 April and 5 May.
