Playing styles and prediction
Koepfer approaches the US hard court swing in fine form after a successful last few months on the Challenger tour on both clay and grass. Now the German will hope to improve his ranking even further as he enters this match with confidence having beaten former champion John Isner in the opening match.
Evans will look for a high first serve percentage as he looks to prevent the German from being aggressive on return with the Brit looking to use the slice as much as possible. Meanwhile Koepfer will look to be attacking on return as well as consistent on serve as he looks to nullify Evans’ creativity from the baseline. This is an important week for Evans given he has semi-final points to defend in Canada and this match will be test his ability to raise his level in pressure moments as Koepfer is full of confidence at the moment and will bring a consistent level throughout the match.
