Dan Evans def. Alexander Bublik 7-5 6-2

Dan Evans continued his strong start to the year at the Adelaide International. The British No.1 powered into the quarter-finals with a 7-5 6-2 victory over mercurial Kazakh Alexander Bublik.

Evans reached a career-high ATP ranking of No.33 this week, thanks to his impressive form for Great Britain at the ATP Cup, where he completed a stunning Top 20 victory over Australian Alex de Minaur. Those results earned him his first Grand-Slam seeding at the upcoming Australian Open in Melbourne.

He celebrated the best days of his career clinching the opening quarter-final of the season (team events excluded) after another brilliant, solid match. The Brit failed to serve out the opening set at 5-4, but then he dominated the proceedings winning eight of the next ten games. Evans will face American Sam Querrey or third-seeded Russian Andrey Rublev, who won his third ATP title last week at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha. They are scheduled first tomorrow on Centre Court at 11:00 am (0:30 am GMT).

He has never faced Querrey, while he’s 1-1 against the Russian at all levels, as he beat him in a Challenger event in Dallas in 2016 and lost in the Indian Wells Challenger semi-final last season.
