H2H: Kyle Edmund (WR 581) Jannik Sinner (WR 15)
Tournament Previous Best N/A N/A
1st Serve % 53.9 57.9
Service Games Won % 70.4 83

2nd Serve Return Points Won % 50 52.6
Break Points Converted % 50 41.1

Edmund will need to be wary of Sinner’s efficient serving while the Brit will be encouraged by his returning in his first few tournaments back on the tour.

Playing styles and prediction

Sinner came close to his Grand Slam breakthrough last season with tough five set defeats to Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon and the US Open respectively. Sinner’s power off both sides mixed with consistency on serve makes him one of the tougher young players to play and will look to improve mentally to take the next step in his career.

This will be a major test for Edmund especially for the Brit’s defensive skills as Sinner has the biggest shot-making on the tour. This match should test whether the Brit’s consistency on serve is getting there or whether improvements still need to be made. The expectation will be that Sinner is too strong for the Brit but this match will be about fitness and performance with the Australian Open just a couple of weeks away.

Prediction: Sinner in straight sets.
