Jack Draper is into the semi-finals in Acapulco after a dominant display against Miomir Kecmanovic. It was a tricky start for the Brit as Kecmanovic produced an impressive start on serve, hitting forehand winners into the open space. There was a good response from Draper though as he used a mixture of power and finesse to be efficient on serve.

There was some smart and proactive returning from Draper as the Brit broke in the third game for a 2-1 lead. Incredible depth from the baseline saw Draper set up the drop-shot as well as approaches to the net as he continued to dominate the match with Kecmanovic lacking aggressive patterns of play. A double break was soon created as the Brit wrapped up the opening in 32 minutes.

The second set was slightly harder for Draper as Kecmanovic began the set with attacking intent as he played on the front-foot, forcing the Brit to cover more ground. After saving break point in the opening game, Kecmanovic pushed for the break of serve as he looked to use the angles to force errors from Draper’s game. The Serb had two break points in two consecutive return games but Draper’s defensive skills were two stern as he held in both service games.

A resilient couple of service games paid off for Draper as he unleashed some deadly forehand returns to seal a break of serve for 3-2. The relentless baseline hitting of Draper continued as he continued to apply the pressure on Kecmanovic. When it mattered the Serb crumbled as Draper broke for a second time in the set to secure a 5-2 lead.

No mistakes were made from Draper as he closed out the match to love with an ace as he booked a spot in the biggest ATP semi-final of his career.

Playing Styles and Prediction

De Minaur has started the season in incredible form having made his top ten debut at the United Cup where he beat Novak Djokovic. That has been followed by a second week appearance at the Australian Open before reaching the final in Rotterdam. Now the Australian will look to defend his title in Mexico having beaten Stefanos Tsitsipas for the first time in eleven meetings.

Draper will aim to serve efficiently as he aims to take advantage of De Minaur’s lack of efficiency in return, mixing up his patterns of play. Meanwhile the Australian will aim to remain effective and consistent on serve, using the angles to force Draper into uncomfortable positions on the court. In terms of quality, Draper has a slight advantage but De Minaur’s superior conditioning could be a factor in this match.

Prediction: Draper in three sets.
