Cameron Norrie is into the semi-finals in Acapulco after a dominant victory over German lucky loser Peter Gojowczyk. Norrie made a quick start as he survived a barrage of deep forehands to break immediately as he took advantage of the German’s inexperienced net skills. After saving a break point in the second game, Norrie continued to look for openings but Gojowczyk would have his best spell of the match as he won his only game of the match.

Norrie continued the onslaught of groundstrokes as his defence continued to prevail as he broke for a second time to lead 4-1. Gojowczyk had relative success on return but was ultimately outsmarted on the big points as two more break points came and went. Norrie would hold and seal a third break of the match with the German missed another volley with the Brit sealing the opening set in 36 minutes.

The second set was no different in terms of the outcome or the duration of it with the only difference being the Brit winning all six games. Norrie continued to outsmart Gojowczyk as he sealed his semi-final spot with a forehand down the line winner as the 6th seed makes it a second ATP semi-final in a row.

Norrie’s serving has improved over the last couple of weeks and that is evident in the statistics but he will have to be wary of Tsitsipas’ high break point conversion rate.

Playing Styles and Prediction

Despite having elbow surgery in the off-season, Tsitsipas has started the season in fine form, reaching the semi-finals at the Australian Open and reaching the final in Rotterdam. The world number four seems to be playing more aggressively than before as he looks to build momentum heading into the clay court season.

Just like he’s been doing over the last couple of weeks Norrie will have to serve at a high level and try to make Tsitsipas uncomfortable. Coming into the net to finish off points is an area that Norrie should try to utilise otherwise Tsitsipas will feel too comfortable in the longer rallies. Whoever takes the most risks will win this match and the Greek has reached good enough form to suggest that he’s the slight favourite heading into this match.

Prediction: Tsitsipas in three sets. Β Β
