Kyle Edmund, fresh from his second career ATP title, extended his six-match winning streak to open his campaign in Acapulco. He comfortably beat Feliciano Lopez in a late match that began at 12.20am local time.

The Brit had beaten the Spanish veteran in the Davis Cup finals last season in straight sets. In Acapulco, after a tight first set, he built a 2-0 lead in the second, saved two break-back opportunities in the next game and completed his victory in style in 68 minutes.

He served consistently throughout the match, as the seven easy holds demonstrate. He delivered eleven aces, winning 97% of first-serve points.

Emund hasn’t beaten a top 50 player this season yet. He will need the same efficiency on serve in his round-16 match against No.4 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime. The Canadian improved to 13-8 in 2020 thanks to a 6-3 7-6(5) victory over Aussie lucky loser Alex Bolt, after saving two set points on serve at 4-5 in the first set. The Canadian Next Gen has now won nine of his past 11 matches after finishing runner-up in Rotterdam and Marseille.

Both players won more than 85% of their service games this season. The Canadian has drilled the fourth most aces in 2020, although he played definitely more matches than the top 3 players.

The clash will predictably feature lots of power battles from the baseline with both players searching to control the rallies using their forehands to move the opponent. Increasing the second-serve return point ratio could make a difference.

Prediction: Auger-Aliassime in three sets

Adrian Mannarino def. Cameron Norrie 2-6 6-3 6-3

Adrian Mannarino came from one set behind to bring Cameron Norrie‘s campaign in Acapulco to an early end. After a one-sided first set, the first four games of the second set went against serve. The Frenchman broke again to 5-3 and the clash was over. The Brit, winning just 53% of first-serve points, failed to react in the decider.
