[1] Daniil Medvedev

Tournament best Performance: R4 (2021)

There are a lot of expectations riding on Medvedev’s should as he competes in his first tournament as the World No. 1 and there is plenty of scope for improvement for him to better his best run to the round of 16 last year.

But all eyes will be on whether or not we will have another encounter against Rafael Nadal – who has yet to lose (ion hard courts, no less) this year.

Medvedev’s Path to the Final (Ranking/Seeding)

  • R1: BYE
  • R2: Alexei Popyrin ¦ H2H: Medvedev leads 3-0
  • R3: Gael Monfils [26] ¦ H2H: Tied at 1-1
  • R4: Roberto Bautista Agut [15] ¦ H2H: Bautista Agut leads 3-0
  • QF: Stefanos Tsitsipas [5] ¦ H2H: Medvedev leads 7-2
  • SF: Rafael Nadal [4] ¦ H2H: Nadal leads 5-1
  • F: Alexander Zverev [3] ¦ H2H: Tied at 6-6

Tournament Best Performance: Quarter-final (2021)

Zverev will compete under a continuing cloud surrounding his behaviour. As well as the ongoing investigation into domestic abuse allegations, his outburst in Acapulco earned him an eight-month suspended sentence over a probation period of one year (to 22 February 2023), meaning he cannot incur any further Code Violation.

Zverev’s Path to the Final (Ranking/Seeding)

  • R1: BYE
  • R2: Grigor Dimitrov ¦ H2H: Zverev leads 3-1
  • R3: Alex De Minaur [29] ¦ H2H: Zverev leads 5-1
  • R4: Pablo Carreno Busta [16] ¦ H2H: Zverev leads 2-0
  • QF: Matteo Berrettini [6] ¦ H2H: Zverev leads 4-1
  • SF: Andrey Rublev [7] ¦ H2H: Zverev leads 5-0
  • F: Daniil Medvedev [1] ¦ H2H: Tied at 6-6

[4] Rafael Nadal

Tournament Best Performance: Title (2007, 2009, 2013)

And so on to the man in form at the moment. Nadal has excelled on the hard courts this year, has yet to lose a match, and has surpassed both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in terms of Slam titles – and we are not even at the clay court season yet!

The match-up everyone wants to see is against Daniil Medvedev in what is fast becoming a new rivalry on the blocks, albeit rather one-sided at the moment.

Nadal’s Path to the Final (Ranking/Seeding)

  • R1: BYE
  • R2: Sebastian Korda ¦ H2H: Nadal leads 1-0
  • R3: Dan Evans [27] ¦ H2H: Nadal leads 2-0
  • R4: Denis Shapovalov [13] ¦ H2H: Nadal leads 1-0
  • QF: Casper Ruud [8] ¦ H2H: First Meeting
  • SF: Daniil Medvedev [1] ¦ H2H: Nadal leads 5-1
  • F: Alexander Zverev [3] ¦ H2H: Nadal leads 6-3

The BNP Paribas Open take place between 10-20 March – (GMT -8 hours).
