Luke Bambridge & Jonny O’Mara re-united to play in the ATP 250 Intrum Open in Stockholm. The Brits were unseeded and drew Taro Daniel &Β Maximilian Marterer in the first round. The Japanese/German battled well in the first set, but the Brits secured the break needed to grab the lead. The second set was much closer as Daniel & Marterer stayed toe-to-toe with Bambridge & O’Mara forcing a tiebreak. The Brits kept up the pressure in the breaker and eased into the next round 6-4, 7-6(3).
The quarter-final saw Bambridge & O’Mara facing fourth seeds Ken & Neal Skupski. In the battle of the Brits, both sides were very evenly matched. The first set saw the non seeds break the serve of the fourth seeds and take the lead. The Skupski brothers fought back in the second set and forced a tiebreak. It was the seeds that edged the tiebreak and forced a match tiebreak to decide the semi-finalists. Bambridge & O’Mara edged the final breaker to book their spot in the semi-final 6-4, 6-7(7), 10-7.
In the semi-final the Brits were up againstΒ Simone Bolelli & Ivan Dodig. The Italian/Croat had beaten the top seeds in their quarter-final and were looking to continue that form. Bambridge & O’Mara though had other ideas and broke serve. Bolelli & Dodig tried to fight back in the second set, but the Brits were too strong and again broke serve to move into the final in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
The final saw the Brits against third seeds Marcus Daniell &Β Wesley Koolhof. This was fittingly a very very close match. Bambridge & O’Mara found it difficult to break the serve of the seeds, and took until the very end of the first set to manage the break. The second set was even closer, as Daniell & Koolhof forced a tiebreak, although the Kiwi/Dutch pair kept the scoreline tight, it was the Brits who prevailed to lift their second ATP title together in straight sets 7-5, 7-6(8).
