Laura Robson Progresses In Madrid & Reunites With Lisa Raymond For Doubles

By Ros Satar

British no. 1, Laura Robson won her first round singles in Madrid, and will reunite with Lisa Raymond in the doubles.

Robson has not had the best time on clay this year, suffering early exits, as well as the defeat for GB at the hands of Argentina in the Fed Cup, in April.

Robson said: “I’ve had a tough couple of matches in my last few tournaments, so it’s good to finally win one.”

Robson and Raymond face Janette Husarova and Sabine Lisicki later today in the doubles.

The USA/GB pairing enjoyed a fun-fuelled run to the Miami doubles final, in March, losing to Nadia Petrova and Katarina Srebotnik in straight sets.

Robson said: “I’m looking forward to doubles tomorrow with Lisa Raymond – I’m really excited to play with her again.”

Robson will face the winner of the first round encounter between Tsvetana Pironkova and the fourth seed, Agnieszka Radwanska who also play today.
