WTA Brisbane Results & Quick Hits

  • No. 2 seed Dominika Cibulkova survived a scare in her season opener in Brisbane, having to come from a set down to book her spot in the quarter-finals. Benefiting from a bye into the second round she ended Zhang Shuai’s hopes – no stranger to the comeback story.
  • Meanwhile top seed Angie Kerber faced some very spirited resistance from home crowd favourite Ashleigh Barty. After her brief affair with Big Bash Cricket this time last year, Barty started fearlessly, taking the battle to the World No. 1 in her opener, and even levelled the set before finally succumbing to last year’s finalist at the Brisbane International.
